Abbie Van Curen

Abbie Van Curen, Reno, Nevada — Had Abbie been born 12 hours sooner, it is possible she would have been “born in the saddle.” She has literally been riding her whole life from showing paint horses to representing the Reno Rodeo as a member of the flag team for four consecutive years.

Currently, Abbie is a full time student at the University of Nevada, Reno, majoring in Nursing. Keeping a busy schedule of life experiences is the norm for Abbie. Her involvement’s have included: working in programs for children with special needs, volunteering in a senior assisted living facility, volunteering at St. Mary’s Hospital, teaching children in the Sky Tavern Jr. Ski Program, stewarding at horse shows and drill team competitions, scuba diving, modeling in fashion shows, serving as an officer of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and working as a teller at a local bank. Additionally, Abbie was Miss Reno Rodeo in 2000.

“Being active in a variety of aspects in my community has taught me a respect for the beliefs, abilities and opinions of others, the importance of hard work and the value of involvement with people.”
